- Brand: Seachem
- Reef Status Strontium
- 50 titration tests for strontium
- Only 10 minutes per test!
- Precise results in 0.5 mg/L increments
- Easy test validation with included reference
Strontium occurs in natural seawater at a concentration of about 8 to 10 mg/L. It is chemically very similar to calcium, and many organisms incorporate it in their skeletons along with calcium. Its addition to reef aquariums aids the growth of corals, coralline algae and other organisms that lay down a calcereous skeleton or shell, including tridacnid clams.
50 Tests
Reef Status Strontium is capable of at least 50 strontium determinations and is designed specifically for seawater.
Accuracy
Range
Measures between 5 mg/L and over 50 mg/L strontium
Precision
Detectable changes in 0.5 mg/L increments.
Reference Sample
It isn't necessary to run a reference test to use this kit; however, its proper performance can be validated by running a test in the normal manner except that the reference sample is used in place of aquarium sample. You might choose to run a reference test if you have cause to believe the test is giving incorrect results.

The 10 Minute Strontium Test
The first and only 10 minute strontium test! The test involves separation of strontium from the sample by a highly selective extraction technique, followed by a sensitive titration in 0.5 mg/L increments. The sample is treated and filtered through an adsorbent to selectively remove the strontium from solution. The filtrate is discarded and the adsorbent is washed to remove residual sample. The strontium is then eluted from the adsorbent and measured.
